Edit Combination Mode Pages - Overview

Edit Combination Mode Pages
0 TIMBRE 1 5 Page 3
1 TIMBRE 2 6 Page 3
2 WINDOW 7 Page 3
3 MIDI FILTER 8 Effect
4 Page 3 9 Write
(All of these pages are covered  on pages 109-119 in the Percussion Manual.)

Here is where you edit existing Combinations or create new ones. If you decide you want to keep your edits, there are two ways to save your work into non-volatile memory:

You can compare your edited Combi to the stored Combi with the COMPARE button on the front panel. Pressing COMPARE toggles between the stored and edited Combi.

Mode (OFF/INTernal/EXTernal)
OFF: Set unused Progs/Timbres to OFF.
INT: This setting allows the Prog/Timbre to be played by the 01's keyboard.

EXT: This setting stops the Prog/Timber from being played by any source. MIDI data (Note, controller, etc.) is sent out the Global Channel as well as any Combi in EXT mode. Progs/Timbres in EXT mode should be assigned a MIDI channel other than the Global Channel.

MIDI Channel (1-16)
MIDI channel number this Prog/Timbre responds to and outputs on. "G" identifies the Global channel.

Program (A00-A99, B00-B99)
The Program number assigned to this Timbre. If you want to edit a program shown here, you can go directly into EDIT PROG mode by holding down the column/letter button of the Prog you want to edit and simultaneously pressing the EDIT PROG button.

Volume (0 -127)
Volume assigned to this Prog/Timbre.

Velocity Window
Lines 2 and 3 let you make a Prog play depending on how hard or soft you hit the keys. "Top" is short for maximum (or how hard you have to hit the keys) while "Bot" is short for bottom or minimum (or how soft you must hit the keys). This could be considered a type of Layering.

A normal piano/organ has Bot=001 and Top=127.
If Bot=064 and Top=127, the Prog will not be heard until you hit the keys fairly hard, and will continue to be heard no matter how hard you strike the keys.
If Bot=001 and Top=064, the Prog will be heard from the softest hit until midway up the velocity curve, after which it will not be heard at all.

Example: Combi A02:The Finale has Timbre2=B39:Timpani with a Velocity Bot=112 and Top=127. The Timpani on C4 will not be heard until you strike C4 rather hard.

If Timbre Mode (Page 0, Line 3) = EXT, setting the Velocity Window sets the range over which MIDI Note messages will be sent out MIDI OUT.

Key Window
Lines 4 and 5 let you make a Prog play depending on which keys you hit within a group. "Top" is the highest key of the group. "Bot" is the lowest note of the group. This is one way you can "split" the keyboard.

Example: Combi A88:Bass&Piano has Bass guitars on the lower keys (C-1 through B3) and Piano on the higher keys (C4 through G9).
