Q: Where can I find an 01?
A: 01 stopped being manufactured sometime around Fall of 1996, so it's unlikely you'll find a new one. Ways to find used 01s include:

1. Check things out is using E-bay (http://www.ebay.com). You can see what's available and for how much. It is currently the most popular way to get 01s and related gear (like PCM cards).
2. Post a question on the korg01 mail list (Click here to learn how to subscribe.)
3. Post a question at Synthzone (http://www.synthzone.com), which seems to get a fair number of questions about where to get gear and what's a fair price.
4. Check http://www.harmonycentral.com.
5. Check http://www.hickeys.com for both new and used gear including PCM cards.
6. Talk to local music stores. Once they realize they can't talk you into buying something new, they may admit they know someone who knows someone.
7. If the music store has a bulletin board, post a "Korg Wanted" ad.
8. Local papers (commercial and/or freebies) can also be helpful.

PCM Cards
PCM cards are no longer being sold by Korg. Known sources for new cards are listed in the PCM Card section. To find used cards, try following the guidelines for finding a used 01 above.

How much does used 01 gear cost?
I DO NOT buy or sell this stuff !
and I don't keep track of current prices. These are just some examples of what I've seen at one of the places mentioned above to give you an idea of how much you might expect to pay. Most items were offered for sale by individual people, not a business (but you could contact any business and ask if they can help find what you want).

Q: What should I look for when buying a used 01?
A: To do all this properly, it would be great if you could borrow the unit overnight. A written receipt is a smart thing to get for legal protection (it's not stolen), settling disputes, and for tax purposes. The receipt should be dated and have the 01's serial number written on it. It could say something like:

"I received from     (Buyer's Name)     the amount of $(amount paid) as payment in full for one Korg model 01 synthesizer serial #(__________). Signed      (Seller's Name)      on     (date)    ."

It helps to have the seller print his name as well, especially if the handwriting is, um, artistic.

Are you paying a fair price? That's a good question you can put on the korg01 mail list - "What's the going price for this model 01?". If you're not already on the list, subscribe! (click here to learn how).

(If you have other suggestions, especially if you've learned from experience, please e-mail me.)
