The demo was recorded for a typical four-piece band (lead, rhythm, and bass guitars, drums) with a lead vocal and optional backing vocals in the final verse only.
The lead and backing vocals can sing in unison or harmony, as feels best.
There are two lead guitar parts, intended to be two electrics. But I didn’t have enough tracks so I recorded an electric (live) and an acoustic (synth). The two parts alternate in places, in harmony others, in unison at the end. One could interpret this as representing the storyteller and the focus of his attraction. The two-string bends-to-unison should convey yearning.
I had accepted a temporary job in a new city where I didn’t know anybody or any places. I found an apartment, then despite limited funds, joined a health club to burn off frustration and maybe meet any who shared my interests.
I'd never attended an aerobics class, so I started attending many different sessions led by different instructors (male and female) with different musical tastes. It was good stuff once I got the hang of it.
Of all the instructors, one lit up my class. She was fit and good-looking (as aerobic instructors tend to be), though not “A Babe”. Nice smile, nice music selection, just a really nice vibe. After many classes I worked up the courage to chat with her after one class. She was married, though perhaps not happily. Still, that was enough for me to turn off the dream, and I saw her no more.
Studio notes on the recording of this song are not available. All instruments except the lead guitar were sequenced using Cakewalk and a Korg 01/Wpro synthesizer. The lead guitar was played through an effects box. The sequence and live guitar (custom effects mix) and live vocal (reverb only) were recorded to a four-track cassette recorder. This was mixed down to a stereo cassette master.
